About

Miss Jennifer Brown is a distinguished Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Institute of Neurological Sciences in Glasgow and serves as the National Clinical Director for the Managed Service Network (MSN) for Neurosurgery in Scotland. Her extensive medical journey began at McGill University in Canada, where she earned a B.Sc. in Anatomy in 1986 followed by her medical degree in 1990, before moving to the University of Toronto for her core surgery and neurosurgery residency training. During her residency, she achieved certification in Neurosurgery in 1998 and completed an M.Sc. in neurotrauma research at the Institute of Medical Science. Seeking further specialization, she relocated to Scotland to undertake fellowship training in general neurosurgery, complex spinal surgery, and paediatric neurosurgery between 1998 and 2000. Throughout her career at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), she has held significant leadership roles, including serving as the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery from 2005 to 2008 and as its Clinical Lead from 2009 to 2011. In her current national capacity, she plays a vital role in coordinating neurosurgical operations across Scotland’s four main units—Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, and Aberdeen—to ensure equity of access and consistent standards of care for all patients. Her primary clinical and academic interests focus on paediatric and spinal neurosurgery, and she is an active contributor to medical education as a member of the Intercollegiate Examination Board for Neurosurgery. Beyond her clinical and administrative commitments, she is an enthusiastic "extreme gardener" who enjoys tending to her rural garden on steep Scottish terrain and spends her free time exploring the local hills.
